Great shisha charcoal is not an accident — it is the product of a disciplined manufacturing process where every stage affects what you experience in the bowl: how fast the coal lights, how steady its heat is, how long it lasts, and whether it adds any taste of its own. At our Indonesian facility, Go Chicha produces over 500 tons of premium coconut charcoal annually using the six-stage process below.
Sourcing & Sorting
Every batch begins with mature coconut shells collected from certified sustainable farms in Indonesia — an agricultural byproduct that would otherwise go to waste. Shells are inspected, cleaned, and sorted by density; only fully mature, dry shells make the cut, because shell quality directly determines carbon content and burn time.
Controlled Carbonization
The sorted shells are carbonized in low-oxygen kilns at precisely controlled temperatures. This slow pyrolysis drives off moisture and volatile compounds while preserving pure carbon — the reason Go Chicha coals reach 80–85%+ fixed carbon and burn without odor or visible smoke. Rushed, open-air burning (common in cheap charcoal) leaves impurities that cause smell, sparking, and inconsistent heat.
Milling & Blending
The carbonized shell is milled into a fine, uniform powder and blended with a small amount of natural food-grade starch — the only other ingredient. No chemical binders, no accelerants, no fillers. Uniform particle size is what gives the finished coal its even density and predictable, steady heat curve.
High-Pressure Molding
The blend is compressed under high pressure into precise formats — cubes from 22 to 26 mm, hexagons, flat tablets, sticks, and BBQ briquettes. Higher compression means denser coal, and denser coal means longer burn: our premium cubes hold heat for 90–110 minutes.
Slow Drying
Freshly molded briquettes are dried gradually in controlled ovens until internal moisture falls below 5%. Skipping or rushing this step is why inferior charcoal crackles, sparks, or breaks apart — proper drying makes the coal easy to light and structurally solid all the way through a session.
Laboratory Quality Control
Every production batch is lab-tested against our specifications before packing: ash content below 2–3%, fixed carbon above 80%, moisture below 5%, burn time verified by timed combustion tests, and drop tests for structural integrity. Batches that miss any target don't ship.
Why this process matters to your business
Consistency
Uniform density means every coal in every carton behaves the same — essential for lounges serving dozens of bowls a night.
Purity
Two natural ingredients and slow carbonization mean no chemical odor, no sparking, and no interference with tobacco flavor.
Sustainability
Made entirely from coconut-shell waste — no trees cut, carbon-neutral production, and a story your customers care about.
Our batch specifications
Ash content under 2–3% • Fixed carbon above 80% (85%+ for premium cubes) • Moisture below 5% • Burn time 80–120+ minutes depending on format • Zero chemical additives. Full technical specifications for every format are listed on our products page, and our charcoal guide explains how to evaluate any supplier's coal.
